LiuGong celebrated its 60th anniversary in November 2018 at the LiuGong International Industrial Park in Liuzhou, Guangxi, China. LiuGong is viewed as a pioneer in the production of loaders as well as the construction equipment industry in China. The company was established in 1958 in Liuzhou, Guangxi with over 500 workers to facilitate the economic development in southwest China. In 1966, LiuGong rolled out the first wheel loader accredited by China, which opened a new chapter in the company’s development. In 1993, LiuGong began trading on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange and became the first listed company in the construction equipment. Since 2000, LiuGong has been looking beyond its loader business and working on cross-regional operations and expansion of its product lines.

In April 2002, LiuGong produced eight hundred and ninety-nine loaders in one month which was known as the ‘899 Campaign’, a huge leap in production at the time. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the company launched its modernisation drive to expand rapidly into overseas markets. Along with China’s entry into the WTO, LiuGong started to build its eastern bases and added multiple product lines into its portfolio. In 2003, LiuGong signed its first overseas distributor in Morocco, and in 2004, set up its first overseas subsidiary company in Australia. In 2007, the company opened its first overseas R&D centre in India.

In 2008, LiuGong set up the SinoEver Financial Leasing Company in Beijing and entered crane business by acquiring Zhengchonganli Engineering Machinery Company in Bengbu.  In 2010, LiuGong acquired Liuzhou OVM, a world leader of prestressing products and technology, and started the construction of an eastern manufacturing base for excavators in Changzhou. In 2011, LiuGong entered the piling foundation industry by acquiring shares of Jintai, China’s leading brand in piling machinery, and opened a JV with Cummins in Liuzhou. In 2012, LiuGong acquired the civil construction machinery segment of HSW in Poland and started exporting products to the EU. Also in 2012, LiuGong opened its hydraulic company. In 2013, LiuGong and Metso started a joint venture to produce mobile mining crushers and grinding mills, and LiuGong took over an air compressor business in Liuzhou.

In 2015, LiuGong launched the National Earthmoving Machinery Engineering Research Centre and LiuGong Global R&D Centre in China, making LiuGong the only national demonstration base for technological innovation and industrialization of earthmoving machines. In 2016, LiuGong entered the agricultural equipment sector. In 2018, the company started producing intelligent manufacturing systems, mining machinery, forestry machinery, and aerial work platforms.

At present, LiuGong boasts a strong global presence with 19 product lines, 20 manufacturing bases including China, India, Poland and Brazil, and approximately 9,000 employees. It has also established partnership with more than 300 distributors in over 100 countries.

Zeng Guang’an, chairman, LiuGong Group, said: “We’ve witnessed sixty years of passion, across changing markets and fierce competition. The spirit and core values of LiuGong, along with the idea of constantly creating value for customers, and making contributions to society have led LiuGong from a remote enterprise to an international enterprise.”
