The chief designer of the Superbus project, an electric powered cross-over between a bus and a limousine, says that it could slash travel times between Abu Dhabi and Dubai to 30 minutes.

Delegates at Commercial Vehicles Middle East were offered an insight into plans to establish the Superbus as a practical alternative for business commuters between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Dr Ing Antonia Terzi, chief vehicle designer of the Superbus project, told the conference that a prototype Superbus will be brought to Dubai for demonstrations of its capabilities next month.

Travelling at speeds of 250kph on a dedicated track, the Superbus could slash travelling time between Abu Dhabi and Dubai to 30 minutes, offering convenient and luxury travel for up to 23 passengers.

The Superbus is the brainchild of a design team at TU Delft University of Technology in Holland. It has been dubbed the “Dutch solution” to the three ills of public transportation: congestion, pollution, and safety.

According to Terzi: “The Superbus will tackle the challenges of mobility, spatial planning, service detail and environmental demands all in one.”
