Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, deputy ruler of Dubai, has recognised SS Lootah’s heavy-vehicle scheme at the third Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST) this week.
SS Lootah Company took first place in the ‘Environment Conservation’ category for its ‘Using Bio Fuel to Power Heavy Trucks Fleet’ scheme, where 5% of the fuel in its heavy-vehicle fleet is blended with diesel made from used cooking oil.
The cooking oil is consolidated from voluntary contributions from the SS Lootah’s group of companies, individuals and corporate partners.
“Through this initiative we have proven that we will be able to switch to a 5% blend of alternative fuel for the diesel engines of heavy vehicles without any major investment in the fleet,” deputy CEO Yousif Saeed Lootah told PMV.
“It also shows that collaborating with various agencies and companies we would be able to produce biodiesel in Dubai from used cooking oil that is already available locally from restaurants.”
