Environmental management company Bee’ah has ordered for 50 of Tesla’s all-electric Semi Trucks.

Bee’ah made the announcement on the back of its participation at the “World Future Energy Summit” that’s taking place from January 15 to 18 in Abu Dhabi.

Tesla will only begin production of the Semi Truck in 2019 and will primarily be used for waste collection and transportation.

Previously, Khaled Al Huraimel, group CEO of Bee’ah had told fmME that the firm’s overall fleet has surpassed the 1,100 vehicle barrier and the endeavour remains to add more eco-friendly modes of transportation.

Bee’ah’s fleet currently has multiple fuelling options – compressed natural gas, electric and bio-diesel – and the new Tesla Semi Trucks will slot in besides the firm’s efforts to achieve low carbon footprint.

“We are extremely pleased to turn towards Tesla for a solution that enhances our leadership of sustainable practices in the region. As a company that strives to be the best in our field, we only work with partners that we consider to be the best in theirs,” said Salim Al Owais, chairman of Bee’ah.

“Bee’ah’s move to bring the first and largest fleet of Tesla Semi trucks to the region is a significant milestone in our operational evolution,” Al Huraimel said .

According to Tesla’s international website prices for the Semi start from $150,000 with the price going up to $180,000 for the higher spec variant.

This is the second time Bee’ah has turned to Tesla for one of the company’s new innovations.

In December last year, Bee’ah revealed it would purchase the Tesla Powerpack for its 2018-bound Zaha Hadid-designed headquarters.

The Sharjah-based firm has acquired nine storage packs, with a total capacity of 1,890 kWhs, which will store the energy from photovoltaic cells, and keep the building operational in the absence of sunlight.
