Sales in the Middle East and other export markets helped Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) grow its unit sales by 18% in 2012 over its 2011 figures, said its parent company Daimler AG.
The Japanese truck and bus manufacturer sold 174,600 units last year, comprising light-, medium- and heavy-duty trucks as well as buses. Of these, 35,000 were sold in the Japanese domestic market, and 139,600 were sold in international markets.
Sales were strongly driven by the continued growth in Southeast Asia, the largest export market of the brand, as well as in the Near and Middle East and Africa, said Daimler. Indonesia alone accounted for roughly 68,000 trucks sold.
As a part of its 2015 growth strategy, Fuso is aiming to sell 200,000 commercial vehicles per year in the international market in the medium-term.
After launching the Canter Eco Hybrid in the European and Australian markets, the company is planning more than 40 market launches, including new product variants and new market segments.
