Swissboring has completed compaction works at Sobha Hartland ahead of schedule.
The firm was initially enlisted by Sobha Developers to complete ground improvement works for the Dubai development’s villas and internal roads.
Owing to the early completion of these works, Swissboring’s contract was extended to include compaction for Sobha Hartland’s external roads. The firm also completed its extended contract early.
Commenting on the Sobha Hartland project, Basem Shouman, business development at Swissboring’s UAE Ground Improvement Division, said: “We applied both dynamic compaction and dynamic replacement techniques. Basically, we had three crawler cranes with capacities ranging from 120 tonnes to 200 tonnes. These cranes were fitted with pounders – eight in total – weighing between 17 tonnes and 25 tonnes, and these pounders were used to compact the terrain.
“Our initial contract involved the villa site and its internal roads. We fulfilled this contract ahead of schedule,” Shouman told Construction Week.
The initial phase involved the compaction of 300,000 sqm. The Swissboring team commenced work on 8 March, 2015, having been tasked by Sobha Developers to complete groundworks by the end of August. This contract, Shouman explained, was fulfilled before the end of July.
The extended contract for Sobha Hartland’s external roads took Swissboring’s total contract scope to 450,000 sqm. The firm began ground improvement works for this portion of the project at the beginning of August, as soon as work had been completed at the villa site. The extended works were due to be completed by mid-October, but Shouman and his team expect to finish before the end of September.
“We have used the same procedure as before, and just like before, we are ahead of schedule,” he concluded.
