Ritchie Bros’ Romania auction drew a global crowd, attracting almost 500 bidders from 53 countries.

The one-off, unreserved sale, which was conducted in Cluj-Napoca earlier this month, was held on behalf of a large international contractor.

And more than 630 items of heavy equipment and trucks were sold during the auction.

“The selection of equipment at our auction in Romania included premium-brand wheel loaders, dozers, dump trucks, hydraulic excavators, and more,” said Nicola Nicelli, Ritchie Bros’ vice president for sales in Southern Europe.

“Instead of selling these items at one of our own sites, we brought the auction to the seller’s location, where the equipment was situated. By offering onsite and online bidding options and a diverse selection, we attracted local and global buyers, which resulted in strong price levels across all equipment categories,” he added.

Approximately 28% of the registered bidders were from Romania, and they purchased 61% of the lots. Online participants, meanwhile, bought 24% of the lots sold during the auction.

Auction highlights included the sale of a 2005 Caterpillar D9T crawler tractor for $218,646; a Volvo G990 motor grader for $102,892; a Terex A600 4×4 rough-terrain crane for $118,326; and an unused 2007 Sandvik H2800 200 T/H cone crusher for $212,215.

A number of bidders from the Middle East attended the Romania sale, according to Ritchie Bros. The equipment auctioneer’s next Dubai auction will begin tomorrow.
