Despite having officially launched its first volley of commercial tipper trailers into the market little over a month ago, Bion Industrial, under the helm of the steely-eyed Noas Al Rawi, has already returned to the fray with a fresh batch of products.
It debuted three new tipper trailers at The Big 5 trade show — two slotting into its existing range and one extending the lower limit of Bion’s range. The models are the B460, B320, and B240 — which are designed to haul volumes of 46m3, 32m3 and 24m3, respectively.
As with all Bion Industrial’s tipper trailers, the new models are manufactured using SSAB Hardox steel, which is lighter and stronger than typical steel — reducing the vehicle weight and, as a result, the wear and fuel consumption, while facilitating a U-shaped design that increases the carrying capacity.
The new tipper trailer sizes have been produced based on feedback from customers and requests for intermediary models, with the smallest of the three being designed to suit the needs of Qatar’s market, where the most stringent vehicle weight restrictions and regulations apply.
“We fitted some models in-between the existing models and extended the range of equipment to better suite our customer requirements,” says Al Rawi.
“We have also expanded to tippers specifically for demolition material and heavy rocks, and introduced a cement bulker that has reduced the dead weight to increase the capacity by 2m3.”
Both the cement bulker and specialised tipper trailer for demolition waste have also been designed and produced at the behest of Bion’s customers, and in both instances the company has looked beyond market standards in terms of operational efficiency.
For the bulker, Bion credits its re-engineering of the aeration system — which helps to pump the powdered cement out of the tank — with saving time during the offloading operation.
Al Rawi notes: “We came up with a system that cuts 20%–30% off the offloading time. Typically, the offloading could take up to 40 minutes, but with our design it takes a maximum of 25 minutes.”
The bulker is being produced for the UAE market with a 52m3 — with plans for a lighter 27m3 capacity model for Qatar’s market.
Bion’s demolition-spec tipper trailer has meanwhile been introduced with thickened SSAB steel compared with the company’s usual trailers, and a hydraulic rather than manual tipper door.
“It is much harder because demolition material contains steel or other material that can damage a normal tipper very easily. The hydraulic tipper door opens before you start tipping — because you cannot risk of hitting the door with the material,” Al Rawi explains.
In terms of manufacturing capacity, Bion Industrial is on schedule to open a 4.6ha facility in Dubai Industrial City in April that will raise its production capacity to 1,500 tippers a year and employ between 800 and 1,000 workers.
“The business is doing very well; we’re always overbooked with our customers,” concludes Al Rawi.
“The life expectancy for normal trailers is seven years; for our trailers it is at least 15 years.
“The combination of everything that we offer — the extra capacity, the high degree of safety, the quality and the fuel efficiency — delivers savings to our customers at the end of the day.”
