Demand for portable power in the GCC expanded in 2015 on the back of its large-scale construction projects under progress.
Franklin Joseph, electrical project manager at Al Shafar General Contracting (ASGC), said reliability remains a key factor while working with temporary power in the region.
“2015 saw the announcement of and progress in large construction projects around GCC, and this has driven up the demand for portable power solutions,” Joseph told Construction Week.Â
“However, due to the nature of these projects and the harsh weather conditions in the GCC region, Â reliability has become a key factor in the design and installation of portable power solutions.
“A reliable portable power system ensures no man-hours are lost and ensures better project progress.”Â
Joseph said he anticipates demand for portable power services will see steady growth this year.Â
“Factors such as improved efficiency, lower emissions, and lower running costs will be key features in the selection of portable power systems.
“Since most of the region’s new projects are large-scale, advanced systems such as synchronised generator sets, which provide more reliability and allow lower fuel consumption have become increasingly popular compared to traditional systems,” Joseph continued.Â
He added sustainable technology will play a key role in the portable power sector as well, with advances such as solar panels and low-consumption LED lights, which reduce the burden on traditional generators.Â
“The general trend would be towards solutions that are energy efficient and have low running costs,” Joseph said.Â
