Ford has unveiled its 2017 F-250 FX4 Super Duty pick-up truck with a demonstration that sees the vehicle plunges into a mud hole so deep that just the top of its cab can be seen.

The vehicle is 4cm taller than preceding models, with a 95% high-strength steel frame that is 24 times stiffer than before, with 10 cross-members creating a seriously rigid lateral structure for activities such as crawling over rocks on the suspension and skid plates.

However, the vehicle’s body is made from a high-strength aluminium-alloy, reducing its weight by roughly 350kg, and allowing 175kg to be poured back into additional strengthening in the chassis, the axles, the suspension, the driveline and the brakes.

Its 6.7-litre turbo diesel engine is paired with a TorqShift 6-speed automatic transmission.
