Himoinsa has launched its new logistics-friendly generator – ‘The Cube’ – at Middle East Electricity.

The Cube occupies a 10-foot container, meaning that two of the gensets can be transported in a single twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU). Moreover, the generator offers considerable power density, delivering 50kW of power per foot.

“The Cube is a 500kW genset that has been designed with logistics in mind,” said Guillermo Elum, director of Himoinsa’s Sales & Marketing Department. “If you take a standard genset offering an equivalent amount of power, you will see that we have reduced the space required by around 35%.”

Despite its 31 years of experience in the generator market, Himoinsa remains a family-run operation. Rather than relying on third parties to supply parts for assembly, the Spanish manufacturer employs a vertical structure to produce all of its own components.

“This is one of the big differences with Himoinsa,” explained Elum. “Because we manufacture the components at our own factories, we can present fresh innovations to the market within very small periods of time. In addition, our after-sales support team members are involved with our engineers during the design process, providing them with valuable technical knowledge from the outset.”

The regional launch of The Cube was staged in conjunction with FAMCO: Himoinsa’s authorised distributor in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman. Senior management personnel from both firms are manning a joint stand at the heart of Middle East Electricity.

“It’s not only the size of the show that makes it appealing,” said Terry McGuire, general manager of FAMCO’s Power & industrial Products Division. “It’s also important to show people that we are serious about the power generation industry. Customers can see the strength of the relationship between Himoinsa and FAMCO. We are all here together on the one stand; it’s a united front.”

Gensets offer a huge range of applications across fields as diverse as construction, events, commerce, and even the military. Indeed, The Cube has garnered interest from a number of rental firms at this year’s Middle East Electricity, according to Himoinsa and FAMCO staff. However, despite the important role played by such units, their work is usually performed behind the scenes. For this reason, the manufacturer and distributor are working in tandem to increase awareness of these unsung heroes.

“This year, the Middle East is expected to invest around $250bn in power,” said McGuire. “Himoinsa and FAMCO are definitely a growing part of this industry. What’s more, in terms of after-sales support, FAMCO is able to supply parts and servicing quickly, and provide proactive maintenance. If there is a breakdown – for whatever reason – we’re there. We can do this now, and we will be doing it even better in the future.”

In the meantime, both Himoinsa and FAMCO are confident that The Cube will find a receptive audience in the Middle East, largely owing to its logistics-friendly design and versatility.

“The Cube is going to be an important product for this region,” said Keith Webb, general manager of Himoinsa Middle East FZE. “The flexibility of having a machine that can operate in 50Hz or 60Hz at the flick of a switch, enabling it to be moved from one application to the next without any technical intervention, is an important feature. This has great benefits to the rental industry in the region where applications for oil and gas and shipping companies sometimes demand 60Hz whilst the local market demands 50Hz. Also, the Saudi Arabian market uses 60Hz, so the flexibility of this product will really come into its own in this region.”

Today is the final day of the Middle East Electricity and Solar Middle East events. The shows are collocated at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre in the UAE.
