Earthmoving is now underway at JCB’s $49.4mn, championship-standard golf course in the United Kingdom.
The British equipment manufacturer’s chairman, Lord Bamford, marked the start of work as one of the manufacturer’s 36-tonne tracked excavators removed the first bucket of soil at the site.
“My vision for this golf course is for it to build an even stronger awareness of the JCB brand around the world, and help drive increased demand for our products,” commented Lord Bamford.
The first phase of the golf course build will involve profiling and contouring, and is due to be completed between now and June 2015. A 10-strong fleet of JCB machines will shift approximately half-a-million tonnes of earth during this period.
The 18-hole, 7,150-yard, par 72 championship course will occupy 240 acres of countryside near to JCB’s world headquarters in the UK county of Staffordshire, and is scheduled to complete in 2018.
Once finished, the golf facility will be made available to JCB’s network of 770 global dealers.
