Caterpillar has launched three new D series mini-excavators, ranging in operating weight from 1.6 to 2.5 tonnes.

The models – the 301.7D, 302.2D and 302.4D – “are powerful, versatile machines that work comfortably in confined spaces and an addition to the existing D Series line-up,” said Caterpillar.

With typical uses including digging trenches for pipes and communication cables, operating in narrow spaces on residential sites, and infrastructure projects, the machines are easily transported on a trailer, or in a pick-up truck.

The 301.7D can be specified with either a fixed or extending undercarriage, while the 302.2D is fitted with an extending undercarriage as standard and delivers a greater dig depth and lifting performance. A longer dozer blade is optional on both the 301.7D and 302.2D.

According to the manufacturer, “Enhancing overall capability, the dozer blade simplifies backfilling and clean-up chores. A float function allows the blade to follow ground contours with no operator correction and make site clean-up quick and easy.”

Powered by a Yanmar 3TNV76 engine, the D series mini-excavator range is complimented by the larger E-Series mine-excavator range, as well as the larger, 7 tonne 307 D model.
