Caterpillar has launched the new 730 Ejector Articulated Truck, which incorporates an innovative load-ejection design, according to the company.
It is the second in the Cat line to use a self-cleaning ejector mechanism, which allows material to be spread and dumped without raising the body. This is an advantage on sites where stability issues or overhead obstacles limit the use of conventional dump trucks.
The truck provides customers with production in a variety of applications, including general construction, road building, sand and gravel hauling, land restoration, mine reclamation and landfill operations.

The reinforced ejector body is made from high-yield, heat-treated steel. Its top rails incorporate the same steel used on the Cat 769D off-highway truck. And the ejector mechanism includes a high-strength blade and technology similar to that proven on Cat wheel tractor-scrapers.
Rated at 28.1 tonnes payload, the 730 Ejector features the Cat C11 engine with ACERT Technology to optimise performance. The engine produces net power of 237kW and features mechanically actuated electronic unit injection, air-to-air after cooling and single waste-gate turbo charging. The systems work together to provide low emissions and responsive performance.
The engine is matched to a six-speed electronically controlled transmission, featuring an anti-hunt strategy and electronic clutch pressure control and controlled throttle shifting for smooth shifts and extended component life.
The load-ejection concept delivers many benefits. Material can be spread while the truck is moving to cut cycle time, decrease power train loads and reduce the amount of support equipment needed for spreading and dozing. The ejector also prevents material from sticking to the inside of the truck body after the dump, so payload can be maximised, improving productivity, reducing fuel consumption and lowering cost per tonne. Ejecting a load without raising the body increases stability, so the truck can work on inclines, side slopes and in soft ground conditions. The truck also excels in tunnelling and underground applications, and on sites where overhead obstacles interfere with dumping.
