FAMCO to supply new machines to Al Jaber

Al-Futtaim Auto and Machinery Company (FAMCO) has announced a major order from Abu Dhabi based Al Jaber Group for Volvo Construction Equipment and Ingersoll Rand Road Machinery

Al-Futtaim Auto and Machinery Company (FAMCO) has announced a major order from Abu Dhabi based Al Jaber Group for Volvo Construction Equipment and Ingersoll Rand Road Machinery.

The contract was signed off to FAMCO after stiff competition, and includes the delivery of Volvo L70E multi-purpose wheel loaders, IR ABG Asphalt Paver Finishers (Titan 8820’s and Titan 325’s), together with IR DD90 Asphalt Rollers and IR P250WCU Portable Air Compressors.

Volvo L70E wheel loaders are working in Al Jaber’s various ongoing projects including Al Raha Beach Development, Saadiyat Island, ICAD II and Abu Dhabi International Airport expansion. The IR machines are to pave a new 4100m runway being built by Al Jaber approximately 2000m north of the existing runway at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The runway project is worth over US $272 million (AED1billion) and Al Jaber is working on it in a joint venture with Odebrecht of Brazil.

“This contract is the result of a coordinated effort between different parts of our organization to find the right solution for Al Jaber. The fact that Al Jaber decided to choose FAMCO recognizes the significant value of our products,” said Arif Chishti, divisional manager, construction equipment, FAMCO.

Al Jaber’s contract is part of the $6.8 billion project initiated by the Abu Dhabi Government to expand Abu Dhabi airport capacity to 20 million passengers by 2010 from the current design of 3.5 million passengers. Abu Dhabi Airport Company’s master plan includes a 220,000m2 terminal midway between the existing runway and the new runway to be built by Al Jaber.

Mohammad Gheith, plant manager, Al Jaber added: “With the addition of these Volvo and Ingersoll Rand machines, we believe that we will be able to achieve our objective far more effectively. I am confident about the Volvo and Ingersoll Rand roadmachinery equipment from FAMCO and their ability to deliver consistently. We decided to go ahead with Volvo again primarily because of the superior quality and reliability of the machines. Coupled with this is the fact that we receive top-notch after sales service and the Volvo guarantee of genuine spare parts.”
