Saudi Arabia Water and Electricity Minister Abdullah Al Hussayen has signed agreements with consultancy firms for the preparation of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) contracts documents covering water services in Jeddah.

The agreements are intended to help the ministry process contracts to manage, operate and maintain water and wastewater services. Charles River Associates has signed an agreement worth US $4.24 million (SR15.9 million); a second agreement valued at $1.36 million has been made with Ernst & Young.

Two PPP projects are expected to start in the first quarter of 2008, with contracts released separately for water services and sewage treatment.
