Two Liebherr mobile cranes have been enlisted to launch a 100-tonne motor ship at Germany’s Lake Constance.
The ship, named Seegold, will be used to carry passengers across Lake Constance between Wallhausen and Überlingen.
The Liebherr units were supplied by separate lifting firms: Wiesbauer deployed its LTM 1350-6.1, whilst Hermann Paule supplied an LTM 1400-4.1.
Jochen Wiesbauer, managing director of Wiesbauer, said that the lakeside lift posed a number of challenges for his team.
He commented: “Due to the space required and the supporting pressures, we worked on the planning for around three months.”
Once Wiesbauer and Hermann Paule’s meticulous planning was complete, the ship launch was conducted in three stages. Seegold, which was built in the Lux-Werft in Bonn, began its journey down the river Neckar. Once it had reached Heilbronn, Wiesbauer lifted the ship out of the Neckar and loaded it onto a Spedition Kübler low-loader.
Finally, the heavy load made its way to Friedrichshafen, where the final lift took place.
The lift ran smoothly, according to Wiesbauer. The two Liebherr mobile cranes launched Seegold’s hull into the water with a tandem hoist. Thereafter, the separately transported wheelhouse was placed on the hull.
