Dubai signs ready-mix technical equivalency deal

The Dubai Central Laboratory of the Dubai Municipality (DCL-DM) has signed a cooperative agreement with the US-based National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) to recognise the technical equivalency of their concrete plant and truck certification programmes.

NRMCA will now offer certificates to all concrete plants operating in Dubai that have received the DCL-DM plant and truck certification, without the need for additional audit.

Hawa Bastaki, director of the DCL-DM said: “We are proud to be signing this agreement with NRMCA. Now concrete companies in Dubai will not only be able to demonstrate their commitment to quality through the DCL-DM programme, but also take advantage of the internationally-recognised NRMCA certification.”

Lionel Lemay, Sr. VP of the NRMCA, added: “NRMCA recognises the excellent work Dubai Central Laboratory has done to develop its ready-mixed concrete plant and truck certification programme as a way to elevate the performance and quality of concrete production in Dubai, and we look forward to a long-term partnership on this programme and other NRMCA certifications in the future.”

NRMCA has been administering its plant and truck certification programme since 1930 in compliance with US standard specifications for ready mixed concrete, which the DCL-DM programme works on similar principals to meet similar standards for concrete production in Dubai.

The certification process for both programmes require extensive on-site inspection by qualified individuals of both plant and delivery vehicles, and the certifications are valid for just one year, according to local state agency WAM.

The DCL-DM and NRMCA will work together over the next several months to establish the process for applying for the NRMCA certification.
