Telematics provider FMS Tech, though its partner in Dubai, Technologica, has been contracted by the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC), part of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), to supply telematics devices and software for the DTC limousine fleet.
In one of the first major roll-outs of telematics across a Gulf transport fleet, FMS Tech will initially install its devices on 113 limousines, equipping them to monitor for 100 different telematics parameters, while on the software side, the system will be set up to deliver information directly to the RTA’s regulatory monitoring system (RMS) platform.
With the data generated, the DTC will be able to evaluate the performance of its vehicles and drivers, and relay messages to the drivers with the aim of improving their driving habits. The system will also help the DTC gain a better of understanding driver routes and shed light on operational inefficiencies.
Bassam Alkassar, CEO of FMS Tech, said: “We are keen on working on this project and aiding the Smart City vision of Dubai, the RTA and DTC. Telematics will assist in paving the way to safer and more connected roads and we look forward to seeing what results it will achieve for the RTA.”
FMS Tech’s flagship telematics device, the FMS Track 2000, records vehicle location, the status and performance of vehicle’s engine, engine maintenance, and a wide range of data pertinent to driver behaviour, before transmitting the information across the GSM network.
A self-contained on-board computer, the device also has GPS connectivity, nine configurable inputs, and a driver identification interface competent across multiple RFID standards, in addition to an unlimited number of thresholds and broad flexibility when it comes to device configuration.
“Our engineers have worked hard to ensure that all RTA’s requirements are met in a timely manner, and that the device to be customisable for future modification and enhancements. Our partner, Technologica, has already begun installing the devices for this project,” added Bassam AlKassar.
The FMS Track 2000 device supports the new Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol, JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) data structure, and operate with the latest secure channel TLS 1.2 and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) standards.
The project will see the 113 devices installed initially, and will be expanded at a later stage.
