Emirates Motor Company (EMC), the Abu Dhabi distributor for Mercedes-Benz and an Al Fahim Group company, has inaugurated an engine endurance testing facility for Mercedes-Benz Trucks and one of only 11 specialist Daimler test centres the globe.

Located in the Mussafah industrial area of Abu Dhabi, the facility is one of a kind in the region and has been steadily ramping up its operational capabilities for the past three years in preparation for being officially launched as a fully approved test centre.

Uniquely, the Abu Dhabi location is also capable of testing the trucks at heavier loads and hotter ambient temperature and humidity conditions than any other Daimler facility, reaching temperature highs of 45 degrees Celsius and up to 100% humidity.

This has allowed EMC to test Mercedes-Benz trucks — which have already clocked six million test kilometres — against the very toughest conditions faced by heavy commercial vehicles in the region, as well as challenging off-road and desert conditions.

“The testing cooperation with EMC and location here in Abu Dhabi provides extreme ambient conditions and allows for high gross vehicle weights,” explained Dr Wolfgang Sladek, head of the Mercedes-Benz programme.

“That combination puts a lot of load on both our powertrain and the vehicle which helps us find any possible weak spots and ensure we provide our customers with premium quality.”

EMC has been the authorised general distributor for Mercedes-Benz in Abu Dhabi since 1962, and today also possesses houses the world’s largest Mercedes-Benz facility, for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

Bilal Alribi, general manager of EMC, added: “This facility helps reassure our customers that our trucks have faced the highest standards of testing possible, and allows us to make sure that only high-quality products reach our customers.”

“The passing by the test fleet of a total travel distance of 6,000,000km, demonstrates the level of testing that has been undertaken, and by implication, the positive effect that it has had on the vehicles.”
