Drydocks World, the Dubai-based ship repair, conversion and new building company, announced on Tuesday that it had delivered a self-elevating platform to the Mumbai-based infrastructure firm, AFCONS.

Built in the Dubai shipyard, the platform will be used for the construction and maintenance of port jetties. It can also be used for geographical surveys, as it has an option of being fitted with mounting drills, piling operations and pile load testing.

Its application for the repair and maintenance of offshore platforms and well heads in the oil and gas industry is also being looked at closely, said Khamis Juma Buamin, chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World

“Our business strategy of supporting the oil and gas industry with needs-based vessels and platforms with best-in-class capabilities has worked well for everyone involved. We have completed the construction of this platform as per requirements and within the agreed schedule,” he added.

At 45m long and 25m wide, the platform, known as Samrat, has a gross tonnage of 1557tn. Its construction process involved detailed engineering, procurement and construction.

The platform can be jacked up using its four spuds, each 60m long. It has an elevated weight of approximately 2928tns.

Buamin added that it came equipped with a Manitowoc crane, six mooring winches, two generator sets and three engines, which provide power to the hydraulic systems.
