Dr Wolfgang Bernhard, the head of Daimler Trucks & Buses, is to step down from the board of management of Daimler, after notifying Daimler’s leadership of his intention not to extend his current contract, which expires in February 2018.

Bernhard is leaving the company at his own request and for personal reasons, having informed Dr Manfred Bischoff, the chairman of the supervisory board, and Dr Dieter Zetsche, the chairman of the board of management and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.

“We thank Wolfgang Bernhard for his committed work and respect his decision,” said Bischoff. “We regret this resolution, but we have a number of outstanding managers to succeed. We thank Wolfgang Bernhard for his committed work and respect his personal decision.”

Wolfgang Bernhard will be released from his duties with immediate effect, with Dieter Zetsche heading Daimler Trucks & Buses until a successor is appointed.

Wolfgang Bernhard became head of the Mercedes-Benz Vans division in 2009 and was appointed to the board of management of Daimler in February 2010.

Until March 2013, he was the board member for production and procurement at Mercedes-Benz Cars & Mercedes-Benz Vans and has been responsible for Daimler Trucks & Buses since April 2013.
