Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) has introduced a new rule for labour buses in the UAE’s capital emirate.
Company buses transporting labourers “will not be permitted to ply on the capital’s Baniyas Bridge”, effective 17 September, 2017.Â
The move is part of a strategy by ADP’s Traffic and Patrols Directorate to ensure safer roads and better traffic management in the emirate.Â
Col Salim Abdullah Al Dhaheri, director of the directorate’s Traffic Department, said preventing worker buses on the bridge would reduce traffic congestion and ensure better traffic flow for residents.
Al Dhaheri called on bus drivers and companies transporting workers to abide by the ban throughout the day and to use the alternative routes that have been set in Abu Dhabi-Al Ain highway at Al Mafraq to serve vehicular and bus traffic to and from the Workers City.
Violators of the new rule would be fined $272 (AED1,000), in addition to four traffic points, as per Ministerial Resolution No 178 of 2017 on Rules and Procedures of Traffic Control, Al Dhaheri added.Â

Workers’ transport companies have been informed of the ban, as well as the alternate routes they can use to travel, he added, according to WAM.Â
