Genie has launched the world’s tallest self-propelled boom, with a 54.9 metre (180ft) vertical reach and a 24.4 metre (80ft) horizontal reach.
First shown at Bauma, the Genie SX-180 has a 2.44m by 0.91m platform, with an unrestricted capacity of 340 kg.
The machine is designed to be driven at full height, with travel speeds varying based on boom position. With the boom above 38.1m, the speed is 0.17 km/h.
The SX-180 is suited for applications in the oil and gas industries, commercial construction, industrial construction and maintenance, and general maintenance, said Scott Krieger, senior product manager, Terex Aerial Work Platforms (AWP).
“Customers are always looking for new and innovative ways to carry out their work more efficiently and more effectively. In concert with customer input, our engineers have been able to reach new heights for this next generation of Genie telescopic boom lifts,”
“We have pushed the limits of innovation in the aerial industry by successfully producing results beyond expectations,” said Krieger.
Users benefit from transportability, with a newly designed X-chassis that extends and retracts to provide both stability on the job and a narrow profile for transport.
The boom lift’s stowed dimensions are 3.05m in height and 2.5 m wide, with a stowed length of 12.98, and a weight of 24,494kg. Worldwide availability will begin in the second half of 2013, said Krieger.
