Italian scrap dealer Bandinelli SpA clearly has high hopes for its Sennebogen Green Line materials handling machine. The family enterprise, which operates two modern scrapyards in the north of Italy, has mounted a Sennebogen 860 on a rigid four-point gantry at a height of 8m.

The high-flying machine dominates the skyline at Bandinelli’s 40,000m2 site in Mantua – one of the largest modern scrapyards in the region.

Since 2012, the firm has been using the 860 to charge its set of scrap metal shears. A 250kW electric motor allows the machine to operate efficiently and without any emissions. Moreover, it doesn’t have to refuel as power is supplied directly via the bespoke gantry construction.

The most significant challenge, according to the 860’s owners, was to bring together the control units of the materials handling machine and the shears so that both could be operated by a single person. It was for this reason that the machine was mounted onto its 8m-high platform.

This arrangement allows the 860 to sit directly above the shear cylinder, offering unobstructed views of both the Danieli-Henschel scrap metal shears and the machine’s surrounding work area.

With a reach of 21m, the 860 also services the scrapyard’s sorting and loading stations. An additional Sennebogen 835 is used by Bandinelli as a mobile machine.
