EnCORE has rebuilt a 1970s Manitowoc crawler crane owned by engineering and construction firm Odebrecht.
The Manitowoc 4000W has been working at the Estaleiro Paraguaçu shipyard in the city of Salvador, Brazil, for decades. EnCORE, which is the business name for Manitowoc Crane Care’s remanufacturing arm, worked from its Passo Fundo manufacturing facility to give the veteran crane a second lease of life.
Rodrigo Stefanini, senior manager of EnCORE in Latin America, said: “We were able to completely rebuild the Manitowoc 4000W for Odebrecht, restoring this solid, reliable crane and hopefully giving it another 38 years of dependable service.”
Odebrecht wanted to keep its 38-year-old 4000W in service due a number of its particularly useful features. The crawler crane, for example, boasts a freefall system that can be used for pile-driving applications. Moreover, the long-standing Manitowoc customer values the crane’s easy maintenance and familiar mechanisms.
“It’s always a great pleasure to serve such an important customer by saving them time, money and peace of mind,” added Stefanini. “Odebrecht found great use out of this Manitowoc 4000W, which is no surprise because it’s a great crane, and now the company will be able to use it for many more years to come.”
EnCORE had to perform a large number of tasks during the course of the renovation project, including disassembling and inspecting the machine, installing new components, conducting structural repairs, and remanufacturing the crane’s boom hoist.
In addition to allowing Odebrecht to continue using its favourite old-timer, EnCORE’s refurbishment cost just a quarter of the price of a new crane, saving the customer a significant amount of money. The project took six months to complete.
