Ram Trucks has announced an uptick in power for its Ram 2018 3500 that sets a new benchmark for pulling power in its pickup class by edging it past the Ford 2017 F-350 in terms of torque to take the crown of having the highest pulling power of any pickup truck in its class.
With its 1,260 Nm of torque, the Ram in fact just scrapes by the 2017 F-350, by just 6.0 Nm, but critically, the vehicle is equipped with a fifth-wheel hitch that can tow up to 13,600kg, or 1,130kg more than the 12.5-tonne fifth-wheel equipped by the Ford 2017 F-350 pickup.
The fifth-wheel towing uprating is made possible by an in-house hitch design from Ram Engineering and allows Ram 3500 to haul the heaviest trailers in the segmennt – well beyond the 10,900kg trailer weight limit for most other pickup trucks in the industry.
The 2018 truck improvements are courtesy of higher turbo boost limits developed in conjunction with Cummins. By altering the engine geometry and increased flow rate through the fuel delivery system, the 6.7-litre engine is able to produce an additional 40Nm of torque.
