Acciona aims to reduce its direct emissions and those generated by its energy consumption by 60% between 2017 and 2030. In order to achieve this target, the company utilises its decarbonization fund to finance projects that have the potential for significant reduction in CO2 emissions.
In line with this strategy, the decarbonisation fund supports the purchase of electric machines. Acciona’s asset management department recently acquired various electric machines for a pilot project that will see them employed on construction projects around the world.
The new electric machines include four telescopic handlers and two rotating dumpers, which will mainly be used in urban construction projects. The first telehandler, procured from JCB and its distributor Walkia, was delivered to Acciona’s machinery depot in Seville, Spain. Following a series of tests, the machine is being used in a housing construction project in the Cádiz province in the south of Spain. The other three telehandlers are expected to be delivered within this year.
Acciona estimates that the use of electric machinery will help reduce up to 100 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
