In a significant stride towards the United Arab Emirates’ net-zero goals and sustainability initiatives, Renault Trucks Middle East, and Al Masaood have joined forces with Tadweer to introduce the very first fully electric waste truck in the country.

This ground breaking achievement marks the debut of a fully electric heavy truck in the Middle East, Renault Trucks wrote in a statement.

The inaugural Renault 100% electric truck will be utilised by Tadweer, the exclusive authority responsible for waste management in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, for the collection of household waste in Abu Dhabi, the statement noted.

Manufactured by Renault Trucks under the dealership of Al Masaood, this development follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tadweer and Al Masaood during the EcoWaste Exhibition and Conference

As the first electric heavy truck operating in the region, the Renault Trucks E-tech truck will also undergo a pilot program to evaluate its performance in extreme temperatures, including the scorching summer heat of the capital city.

Additionally, the program will address logistical challenges such as the availability of charging stations along key routes.

Renault Trucks and Al Masaood are two committed partners working towards a more sustainable future. Olivier De Saint Meleuc, President of Renault Trucks International, said “Renault Trucks has a rich history of delivering cutting-edge transport solutions for nearly 130 years, and our success stems from our ability to anticipate the future needs of the industry.”

He said, “Today, our top priority is addressing global warming, and we take immense pride in our state-of-the-art trucks that meet the global demand for low or zero-emission vehicles, while also contributing to the UAE’s visionary Net Zero 2050 strategic ambition. We are delighted to bring our own vision of electric mobility to the country through our partnership with Al Masaood, who shares our values and future-oriented outlook for a zero-carbon future.”
