Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have launched a medical clinic in a bid to improve healthcare provision for the emirate’s cab drivers.
Located in DTC’s Muhaisna headquarters, the facility will be operated in conjunction with Life Line Co.
The initiative represents Dubai’s first government clinic to be dedicated to drivers.
It will be used to offer medical advice and preventative care for DTC employees.
Commenting on the project, Dr Yousef Mohammed Al Ali, chief executive officer of DTC, said: “This newly opened clinic is part of DTC’s strategy to broaden the scope of its services on offer to cab drivers and meet their needs.
“It also adds to the series of achievements made by DTC towards enhancing the happiness and job satisfaction of its employees, including drivers,” he added.
The clinic is equipped with a range of medical amenities, including X-ray machines and a diagnostic laboratory. In addition to general practitioners (GPs), it will boast an onsite team of specialists with expertise in the fields of orthopaedics, ophthalmology, pulmonary and cardiac conditions, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and venereal diseases.
“The clinic has a hotline with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) to keep up-to-date with the developments of precautionary health measures,” said Dr Al Ali.
The facility’s opening hours will be 7am to 11pm from Saturday to Thursday, and 8am to 8pm on Fridays.
The initiative’s backers plan to open an affiliated pharmacy to provide taxi drivers with easy access to prescribed medicines.
In June 2017, DTC contracted FMS Tech to supply telematics devices and software for its limousine fleet.
Also in June, RTA announced plans to begin testing autonomous air taxis in Q3 2017.
