Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated a significant roadway in the emirate, following an extensive project aimed at enhancing the transportation infrastructure.
The initiative involved constructing new bridges and widening the road to accommodate increased traffic flow.
Besides increasing the road’s capacity, this development will considerably reduce travel time, reducing it from 20 minutes to just seven minutes.
Dubai opens new road
Dubai’s RTA has announced the completion of the second and final phase of the Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Corridor Improvement Project. This project covers a distance of 8 km along Ras Al Khor Road, extending from Dubai-Al Ain Road to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
The completed works involved the construction of four bridges, totaling 2 km in length. This project is part of the RTA’s continuous endeavors to enhance Dubai’s infrastructure and keep up with the sustainable expansion of the emirate.
The project was executed in two stages. The initial phase focused on widening Ras Al Khor Road, expanding it from three lanes to four in each direction, and constructing a two-lane service road on both sides. The primary objective was to improve traffic safety and efficiency by eliminating existing areas of congestion.
As a result, the road’s capacity increased to accommodate 10,000 vehicles per hour, and travel time was significantly reduced from 20 minutes to approximately 7 minutes.
The initial phase’s work included the construction of two main bridges:
The completed project includes the construction of two major bridges and a new 5 km road with four lanes in each direction.
The first bridge, measuring 740 meters, consists of three lanes and caters to traffic coming from Dubai-Al Ain Road and Al Khail Road, heading eastward to Dubai Creek Harbour. It has a capacity of approximately 7,500 vehicles per hour.
The second bridge spans 990 meters with two lanes and serves the traffic from Dubai Creek Harbour heading towards Ras Al Khor – Hatta Road. It can accommodate around 3,100 vehicles per hour.
Additionally, a new 5 km road was built, featuring four lanes in each direction. Entry and exit points were strategically placed to facilitate smoother traffic flow from the intersection of Nadd Al Hamar Road and Ras Al Khor Road, serving the newly developed areas.
The second and final phase of the project also involved enhancing the capacity of the intersection of Nadd Al Hamar Road and Ras Al Khor Road. This was achieved by constructing a 988-meter two-lane bridge with a free left turn for traffic incoming from Nadd Al Hamar Road, directed towards Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road.
Furthermore, a 115-meter two-lane bridge was built to facilitate traffic from Nadd Al Hamar Road to Ras Al Khor Road toward Dubai-Al Ain Road.
Additionally, a 368-meter two-lane underpass was constructed, allowing right turns for traffic coming from Ras Al Khor Road and heading to Nadd Al Hamar.
