Manitowoc employees from across the United States have participated in a mass ice bucket challenge, raising $10,000 for the ALS Association.

Whilst the ALS Ice Bucket challenge is usually accepted by individuals or small groups, a team of staff members from the crane manufacturer organised a company-wide event.

The challenge began with Manitowoc’s ‘ice’ facility in Wisconsin, and travelled across 10 other sites – including Florida, Indiana, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Michigan – ending back in Wisconsin at the firm’s world headquarters.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our employees’ support in raising funds for ALS,” commented chairman and CEO of Manitowoc, Glen Tellock, who also participated in the challenge.

“Our team members continue to go above and beyond to help so many worthy causes, like the Relay for Life, United Way, and now the ALS Association. I’m delighted by the support from our employees and thankful to be part of such a great team,” he added.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is an internet phenomenon whereby participants empty buckets of ice water over their heads to raise awareness and money for individuals with the condition.

Participants filled buckets, trash cans, and pails with water and ice provided by Manitowoc’s ice machines. Hundreds of the firm’s employees took part and donated to the fundraising effort. The company itself also donated money for the cause.
