Construction work has begun on Gemini Building Materials’ manufacturing facility at Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa Port.
The plant, which will occupy a space of 11,668m2 and cost $8.2m to build, will form part of the firm’s newly established manufacturing subsidiary, Gemini Technical Industries.
Gemini’s Khalifa Port facility will be used for the production of building products, including aluminium ceilings, t-grid ceiling suspension systems, and metal profiles for the interior finishing sector.
“We are very pleased to see the beginning of construction at Gemini’s new facility in Khalifa Industrial Zone,” commented Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports.
“Our adjacent flagship deep-water Khalifa Port will prove vital for the facility’s import and export activities, and significantly expand Gemini’s regional lobal market reach,” he added.
The plant will be situated in the industrial zone’s KP-5 area, and will supplement Gemini’s existing branches and logistics points in the UAE and Oman.
“We have been part of the Middle East construction industry since 1995,” said Ganesh Babu, managing director of Gemini Building Materials.
“The move to Khalifa Industrial Zone will strengthen our business offerings while boosting our services and competitiveness, especially with regards to regional and international markets.
“The facility in Khalifa Industrial Zone is expected to show an annual increase between 12% and 15%, and offers an opportunity to widen our product range,” he explained.
Gemini expects construction of the plant to complete during the first quarter of this year. Operations at the manufacturing facility are scheduled to begin in May 2015.
