Two Liebherr tower cranes have been delivered to the ship repair facility at India’s Lavgan Dockyard.
The top-slewing 200 EC-H 10 FR.tronic units will be used permanently at the site, and have both been mounted onto rail-going portals.
The tower cranes have load moments of 200 metre-tonnes, and will help to position heavy the heavy components necessary for ship repair.
“Up to six ships can be repaired at the same time in the yard on India’s west coast,” stated Liebherr.
“Ships with a length of up to 130m and 10,000 dead-weight tons (DWT), can undergo maintenance work in up to six berths in the dry dock, and three wet berths,” the German crane manufacturer added.
Both units were erected with hook heights and radii of 50m, meaning that they can achieve lifting capacities at their jib tips of 3.4 tonnes. The maximum load capacity of the 200 EC-H 10 FR.tronic is 10 tonnes.
In order to enable work to be completed across the length of the ships, the cranes have been mounted onto rail-going portals, which sport integrated generators for independent power supplies.
To prevent saltwater-induced corrosion, the cranes’ components have been protected by a special coating formulated for maritime use. In addition, the housings of the units’ electronic equipment is made of stainless steel.
The Liebherr luggers, which were ordered by Lavgan Dockyard Ltd, also feature adjustable drive units with electronic support for precise load placement.
“Liebherr tower cranes are used in ports and shipbuilding yards all over the world thanks to [their] capacity and reliability,” concluded the manufacturer.
