The managing director of Hydrotec, Clifford Sanctis, sold a three-tonne, Thor-branded forklift truck at the Swedish manufacturer’s launch event.

The sale came just minutes after the machine – and the Thor brand itself – received its regional unveiling.

Sanctis, who also ordered a three-tonne unit for stock, is extremely confident that Thor-branded equipment will appeal to end users in Oman.

“I expect the Thor concept to be very profitable,” he told PMV.

“This is competitively priced, high-quality machinery, so I expect it to be extremely popular amongst my customers in Oman,” added Sanctis.

The sale was made during the course of HIAB Middle East’s 2014 partner conference. The former HIAB subsidiary was acquired by chairman and owner, Greger Jacobson, earlier this year, and Thor is to be the company’s new name.

Jacobson and his colleagues unveiled a selection of Thor-branded machines at the Dubai event. A truck-mounted aerial work platform (AWP) was showcased alongside the three-tonne forklift truck.

The Hydrotec customer didn’t even demand to see the machine before committing to the purchase. Sanctis said that this was a reflection of the trust that he and his colleagues have built with Omani end users over the past decade.

“I am convinced of the quality of Thor equipment, but this brand is new to the market,” he explained.

“People trust Hydrotec, not the product. Whatever Hydrotec sells, they know that it’s going to be of high quality.

“For this reason, I just called my customer, told him what the product was, quoted the price, and he committed to buying one on the spot, over the phone,” concluded Sanctis.
