A Kalmar Super Gloria reach stacker has pulled off a record-breaking lift in Sweden.

The Swedish equipment manufacturer’s DRG1000-92-ZXS, nicknamed the Super Gloria, was designed to lift loads up to 100 tonnes.

Even so, the Volvo Penta-powered reach stacker successfully hoisted a 103-tonne load to earn its latest heavy-lifting accolade at Kalmar’s Lidhult headquarters.

“Lidhult is the home of the Kalmar reach stacker,” said Stefan Johansson, Kalmar’s director of sales and marketing.

“Given the local involvement in developing this world record-breaking machine, it is fitting that the team shared in making history,” he added.

The record-breaking Super Gloria is powered by an 11-litre Volvo Penta TAD1172VE diesel engine. The latest gong cements the machine’s reputation as the “world’s largest industrial reach stacker”.

The Super Gloria was developed by Kalmar after receiving a customer request for a custom-built reach stacker that could lift 100 tonnes. However, the manufacturer was confident that its top-end model had the muscles to lift that little bit more. Sure enough, the behemoth was successful in lifting 103 tonnes of steel components.

Of course, a lift of this magnitude would not have been possible without a robust and reliable engine to provide the power.

“A Volvo Penta TAD1172VE is at the heart of the Super Gloria,” said Johan Burgren, account manager at Volvo Penta.

“It’s a compact engine, but it’s also incredibly powerful. In any machine, whether it’s a record breaker or not, the engine is the most vital part.

“A powerful engine that is small but reliable offers customers exceptional fuel consumption while still being able to perform incredible lift challenges. Kalmar’s latest achievement with the Super Gloria proves Volvo Penta’s reliability – you can trust it to be a piece of equipment that will not buckle under pressure,” he concluded.
