PMV Exclusive: Ritchie Bros. September auction in Dubai sees over 1,000 vehicles and machinery come under the hammer  

$252,000 XCMG all-terrain crane the highlight of latest Ritchie Bros. sale in region as 1,268 bidders registered online from 76 countries worldwide

The hammer came down on 1,353 pieces of machinery, construction equipment and vehicles at Ritchie Bros.’ two-day auction on September 19-20 in Dubai, with the purchasers procuring their items online.

In a post-event report shared exclusively with PMV Middle East by Ritchie Bros., the global equipment auctioneers said a total of 1,268 bidders registered online for the September sale, with 439 of them coming from the UAE.

The global reach of the auction encompassed 76 countries, with the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan and Kuwait comprising the top five from the local region while the top-five countries from the wider international arena were the US, Canada, Spain, the Netherlands and the UK.

Of these registered bidders, 305 eventually turned out to be buyers after making winning bids, with 223 of these winning bidders coming from the UAE. A 100% of the sales were online, Ritchie Bros. reported, which underscores how important the online sphere has become in equipment auctions.

The buyers came from a total of 39 countries, with the UAE again providing the bulk, followed by Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Qatar and Kuwait in the Middle East. Internationally, most buyers came from Ghana, India, the US, Mexico and Libya, in that order.

XCMG all-terrain crane the highlight

The highlight of Ritchie Bros.’ September sale was a 2020 XCMG QAY260 – a 260-tonne 12x6x10 all-terrain crane, which sold for a whopping $252,000, making it the single most valuable unit sold at the auction.

Earlier, Ritchie Bros. recorded a total of 60,467 online asset searches for its September Dubai sale, with daily search activity peaking at over 5,000 around September 17. Among the most common equipment types searched were vehicles and buses, lifting and handling equipment, transport trucks, attachments, drilling and mining equipment, asphalt and concrete, and trailers.

In terms of manufacturers and brands, the most searched was Cat, followed by Komatsu and Toyota. Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, JCB, Nissan, Hitachi, Renault and Doosan comprised the other top brands, in that order.
