SAF-Holland has launched two new disc brakes – the Knorr ST6 and SBS 2220 H01 trailer brakes. Since late November 2018, the 22.5” disc brake SBS 2220 H01, developed jointly with Haldex, replaces the previous brake SBS 2220 H0. From mid-January 2019, the newly developed Knorr ST6 will replace the 19.5” Knorr SN6 brake. On both brakes, SAF-Holland optimised the topology of the cast parts.
Lightweight design in commercial vehicles increases efficiency: trailers with weight-optimised components have a lower unladen weight, allowing more goods to be transported on each journey. This lowers wear on trailers and semi-trailers, reduces traffic on the roads in the long term and protects the environment. With the same additional load, the lower weight saves fuel and reduces the total cost of ownership.
The new brake SBS 2220 H01 reduces the weight of the trailer by five kilogrammes per axle. The dead weight of brake caliper and brake pads is only 29.5 kilos. The 22.5” disc brake features an optimised pad retaining clip and is designed for braking torques of up to 20 kNm. It is suitable for axle loads of up to nine tons, while up to ten tons are possible on semi-trailers and central-axle trailers.
The new Knorr ST6 reduces the trailer weight by six kilos per axle. The brake caliper including the brake pads has a dead weight of only 31.5 kilos. In addition, the new disc brake – as the Knorr ST7 – is equipped with a sealed movable bearing. The Knorr ST6 is designed for braking torques up to 19.3 kNm. It is suitable for trailers with an axle load of up to eleven tons in combination with 19.5” tyres.
Mechanics will use the same tools for the new disc brakes: the universal tool kit contains all the tools needed to repair and service the new SAF-HOLLAND disc brakes, as well as other types of brakes, including from Knorr, WABCO and HALDEX. The items in the repair kit are clearly arranged, can be easily accessed and are available to reorder, if required.
