UD Trucks has announced that it registered a nine percent increase in sales across the Middle East, East and North Africa (MEENA) region in 2018. In the Middle East region alone, the Japanese truck manufacturer either increased its market share or recorded stable sales in five out of seven markets.
2018 saw the Middle East launch of two new Quester models designed for the heavy construction industry – the Quester 6x4R-40 Tons and 8x4R- 46 T with hub reduction.
The UAE and Saudi Arabia were tough markets in 2018, but UD Trucks managed to increase its market share in segments such as waste management and construction. Bahrain and Qatar remains strong markets for UD Trucks where the brand enjoyed significant market share; in Bahrain, the brand continues to hold the number one position in the market.
UD Trucks reactivated the Lebanon and Jordan markets in 2018 as the brand transitioned from the legacy trucks to the introduction of new models in both the heavy and medium duty sectors. It also enjoyed increased market share in two of its key East African markets, Ethiopia and Sudan.
2019 is set to be an important year for the brand as it investigates entering new regional markets with significant potential such as Tunisia and Kenya, and other markets in West and North Africa.
