Abu Dhabi announces new EV charging tariff of 30 fils/kWh

The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has announced a new governance framework for charging electric vehicles (EVs) in the emirate. The aim is to enhance vehicle-grid integration and encourage the private sector and consumer participation to scale up EV use in Abu Dhabi.

The tariff will be implemented by Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC) and Al Ain Distribution Company (AADC) and takes effect on August 26, 2021. Following registration, a flat monthly fee of AED 92 will be applied to all EV charger owners until a meter is installed. After the installation of the meter, billing will be based on actual consumption at the rate of 30 fils/kWh.

Owners of EV vehicles in Abu Dhabi are required to register their electric vehicle chargers so that ADDC or AADC can install meters specifically for their chargers. As an incentive, ADDC and AADC will bear the cost of installing the EV charging meter. This offer lasts until the end of 2021 if the customer registers and requests meter installation before end of year 2021. After that the customer will bear the cost of installation. This applies to meters for both residential and non-residential chargers.
