Renault-Nissan Alliance sales rose by 2.5% in 2014

Vehicle manufacturer Renault-Nissan Alliance sold almost 8.5mn vehicles in 2014, representing five consecutive years of improved sales

Renault-Nissan Alliance sold 8,470,610 vehicles in 2014, a 2.5% rise over the previous year.

The sales growth, which represents the group’s fifth consecutive yearly rise, was driven largely by improved demand from Western Europe and the United States, according to the manufacturer.

Renault-Nissan Alliance sales, which includes Russia’s largest automaker, AVTOVAZ, now account for one in 10 cars sold worldwide.

“Robust demand in the United States, the recovery in Western Europe, and an array of compelling new models, contributed to another year of rising sales for the Alliance in 2014,” commented Carlos Ghosn, chairman and CEO of Renault-Nissan Alliance.

“We remain well-positioned and optimistic about the long-term prospects in the global growth markets, despite the recent declines in Russia and Brazil,” he added.

Last year, the group also sold 82,602 electric vehicles, an increase of 24% compared to 2013. The Nissan LEAF remained the world’s best-selling electric vehicle with 61,507 units sold, and Renault-Nissan Alliance claims a market share of 56% within the segment.

In 2014, the US, China, and Russia were the Alliance’s top three markets, with combined sales topping 3.4mn vehicles.
