Michelin marked its 125th anniversary with an event at Yas Marina Circuit.
The French tyre manufacturer invited competition winners to experience its products in tandem with a selection of performance vehicles at the Formula 1 Grand Prix track.
The event was also used as a platform to provide details of the company’s history.
“It’s a proud moment for all those who are part of the Michelin story,” commented Nour Bouhassoun, chairman and president of Michelin in Africa, India, and the Middle East (AIM).
“We’ve achieved a remarkable milestone by reaching 125 years, giving us a sense of achievement for everybody involved. We are constantly developing as a company and looking to lead the way forward for the next 125 years,” he added.
Michelin produces tyres for a broad range of vehicles, from passenger cars to heavy-duty trucks. However, the firm used the Yas Marina event to celebrate its ties with motorsports, offering attendees the opportunity to experience the performance of its tyres under demanding conditions.
Guests also received presentations concerning the company’s heritage and product innovations. With roots stretching back to 1889, Michelin claims that it now allocates €600m (AED2.38bn) every year to research and development.
“This has been such an eye-opening experience,” said Mustafa Fahmi Daoud, who entered the competition to attend through Michelin’s Facebook page.
“I never truly grasped just how much tyres alone can make a difference to my driving safety and comfort, until now. To be made aware of all the other areas that Michelin has been involved in as well has been an extremely enriching experience,” he said.
