Castrol has launched Magnatec Stop-Start, an engine oil designed to protect against ‘stop-start’ driving conditions prevalent in the Middle East.

The average driver stops and starts as many as 18,000 times per year, according to the UK-headquartered manufacturer of automotive oils and lubricants.

Castrol Magnatec Stop-Start protects vehicles from the microscopic wear caused in engines by stop-start driving in traffic and idling at junctions, according to Castrol.

The oil’s molecules cling to critical engine parts to form a “self-healing” layer of protection. If molecules are removed in the process of fighting wear, others rush in to restore the protective layer. Consequently, critical engine components are protected at each stage of stop-start driving.

Commenting on the firm’s latest GCC offering, Gareth Bracchi, senior development technologist at Castrol, said: “Not many people know that stop-start driving can result in additional engine wear. It affects all motorists.

“Heavy traffic, weather conditions, traffic signals, and simple junctions regularly lead to car journeys that are interrupted by slowing down, stopping, and then starting off again. As road traffic across the world increases, so will these types of journeys,” he explained.

Parul Sikka, marketing director for Castrol Magnatec in the Middle East, added: “Castrol has developed this oil in response to a genuine issue on thousands of roads around the globe. Castrol Magnatec Stop-Start provides the right protection for car engines driving in stop-start city driving conditions.

“The launch of Castrol Magnatec Stop-Start in the GCC will enable drivers to access yet another example of Castrol’s pioneering technology in action,” Sikka concluded.
