Nixon Hire has been named ‘Company of the Year’ at the grand final of the North East Business Awards in the United Kingdom.

The UK-headquartered rental firm scooped the top prize in the competition’s Tyneside & Northumberland sub-regional heat earlier this year. Nixon Hire was subsequently announced as the overall winner at the final, which was held at Durham’s Hardwick Hall on 1 May 2014.

Speaking after the awards, Graham Nixon, the firm’s joint managing director, said: “To win ‘Company of the Year’ in the sub-regional heat was a fantastic achievement in itself, but to be named as the overall winner across all regions is just incredible – we are still taking it in.

“This award recognises how much the business has grown and developed in 47 years, and furthermore, supports the plans we have to drive the business even further forward in the future,” he added.

Whilst Nixon Hire has continued to build upon its strong heritage in the UK, the company is also making significant inroads in the Middle East’s equipment market, operating from its regional depot in Doha, Qatar. Furthermore, in the final quarter of 2013, the company announced that it had entered a joint venture with Al Jeri Transportation Group in a bid to open two additional depots in Saudi Arabia.

Nixon contends that the ‘Company of the Year’ plaudit is a reflection of the calibre of staff members working at the rental firm.

“It has always been our aim to surround ourselves by the best people, and it is these people who we have to thank for the hard work that has made our business what it is today,” he explained.

“We are extremely grateful to all of our colleagues working hard to deliver the ambition and values of the business, and of course, to each and every one of our customers for their continued loyalty to us,” Nixon concluded.
