City Lifting has become the first UK owner of a Grove GMK6400.
The six-axle all-terrain crane is the firm’s second Grove model, following the acquisition of a GMK6300L in 2014.
The London-based crane rental company said that its latest addition will help to meet growing customer demand for high-capacity cranes within England’s capital city.
Commenting following the delivery of the GMK6400, Trevor Jepson, chief executive officer of City Lifting, said: “We are very pleased to be in possession of the UK’s first Grove GMK6400, and we look forward to using it to provide more efficient and flexible solutions for our clients’ heavy-lift projects.”
Grove claims that its 400-tonne capacity GMK6400 “is currently the strongest mobile crane on six axles”. The heavy-duty unit’s design allows it to complete “jobs of a seven-axle crane”, according to the manufacturer.
The all-terrain model features a ‘Megadrive’ hydrostatic drive and single-engine design with Grove’s ‘fuel saver’ option. It boasts a 79m fly jib for optimal reach, and offers three outrigger positions.
City Lifting said that its decision to buy a GMK6400 was influenced by the crane’s 60m boom, MegaWingLift, capacity-enhancing attachment, and fast setup times.
“We researched similar machines from other manufacturers, but realised that the GMK6400 was the best and most reliable crane to meet our customers’ requirements,” concluded Jepson.
