Liebherr delivered an LTM 1300-6.2 mobile crane to South African crane rental company, Marlboro Crane hire, which selected the Liebherr unit largely for the reach of its 78m telescopic boom.

For Marlboro Crane, the LTM 1300-6.2 fills the gap in its fleet between an LTM 1250-6.1 and an LTM 1400-7.1 – which “had to do work for which it was actually too large” in the past, and has now been freed up to be fully utilised on jobs suitable to its load capacity class.

Owner Oliver Dalais explained: “A large radius is often required for hoisting work in this class. The long boom on the LTM 1300-6.2 measuring 78m is therefore a real benefit for us since we will no longer have to fit a folding jib or luffing jib for many jobs.”

The six-axle LTM 1300-6.2 is also the first crane from Liebherr to feature the innovative single-engine concept, with the engine in the crane chassis powering the hydraulic pumps in the superstructure via a mechanical shaft.

The benefits of this concept include reduced maintenance work and lower weight, which can be used for load-bearing components. Additionally, Oliver Dalais commented: “The LTM 1300-6.2 provides easy access to the engine which is very important to us.”

The LTM 1300-6.2 also delivers outstanding load capacity values as the most powerful 300t machine on the mobile crane market.

Liebherr-Africa opened in Springs in 1958, and now has two additional branches in Cape Town and Durban to four other spare parts warehouses throughout South Africa to serve its customers.

Marlboro, with its 250-strong workforce, has purchased the majority of its crane fleet from Liebherr, and Dalais noted: “Liebherr supplies us with reliable cranes, excellent service and good support.”
