Dubai Taxi Corporation has taken delivery of 50 Tesla electric vehicles for its limo fleet.
The models’ deployment was officially launched by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, (DSCE), Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), and Emirates Group.
The vehicles have been fitted with several self-driving technologies, according to UAE state news agency, WAM.
Dubai Taxi has coordinated with concerned parties to establish infrastructure necessary to support its electric models, including the provision of 13 electric recharging stations.

Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the board of executive directors at Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), commented: “The RTA has recently received the delivery of 50 Tesla vehicles as part of a deal for 200 vehicles signed last February on the sidelines of the World Government Summit 2017.
“As such, 75 vehicles will be supplied in 2018, and 75 others are to be delivered in 2019,” he added.
Dubai Taxi’s initial consignment of Tesla vehicles is in keeping with Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s directive to transform the emirate into the smartest city in the world.
It also reflects the Green Economy for Sustainable Development Initiative set out by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, and the Dubai Smart Autonomous Mobility Strategy, which aims to convert a quarter of total journeys into driverless journeys by 2030, according to the corporation.
