German company eCharge has signed an agreement with Jordanian authorities to install 10,000 charging stations for electric vehicles.
The electric recharging outlets will be set up across Jordan in public places, hotels and shopping malls.
According to Amro Abdu, head of the business development, eCharge, the stations would allow electric car owners to charge their vehicles in 15 minutes, and they will be able to pay via blockchain technology through a smartphone application.
“The biggest challenge in the development of battery electric vehicles is that charging stations are not spread in all areas, and there’s a lack of e-cars service stations. An in-depth study of Jordan’s market during the last few years enabled us to formulate a renewable energy strategy that extends to the automotive industry. This would also help reduce Jordan’s oil imports and create new employment opportunities for the Jordanian youth,” he said.
