The lack of basic technical knowledge which results in operators not performing daily checks and not being able to operate machines efficiently is the biggest skill gap among AWP operators in the Middle East, according to Arthur Danelian, managing director, Haulotte Middle East.
“Operators tend to ignore safety procedures such as not operating AWPs as per sequence or not wearing PPE. That’s why we have introduced a daily check list for familiarization training given to operators,” says Danelian.
Danelian expects to see more demand for AWPs in the oil and gas industry in the near future, in addition to their common construction and maintenance applications.
Last year, Haulotte launched the Pulse range of electric mobile elevating platforms for indoor and outdoor applications, rough-terrain capabilities and operation suited to low-emission and low-noise zones. The first models in the Pulseo product line are the HA20LE and HA20LE Pro, both 4-wheel and full electric drive systems and 2-wheel and 4-wheel steering systems, respectively. The expanded its vertical mast range with the Star 8S, a multipurpose machine designed for indoor use up to 8m. Haulotte also launched a mobile app named Quick Positioning to help rental companies, distributors and workers to identify the right machine for the job.
“We see emerging applications of AWPs in the oil and gas and facilities management sectors. New technologies that customers can look forward to on Haulotte machines include active LED lighting system, active screen (onboard fully colored monitor and diagnostic system), and stop emission system. Our customers prefer Haulotte because our equipment offers excellent performance and productivity, robustness, durability and reliability, which contribute to a low total cost of ownership,” says Danelian.
In the first half of 2019, Haulotte posted its highest level of activity ever globally at €342.6 million , up +18%, compared with €285.4 million in the same period of 2018. The European region continued to post sustained sales growth of +20% in the majority of its markets. Sales in Asia-Pacific increased by +21% over the period, driven by very good sales performances in China and Australia. In Latin America, the group’s business declined slightly (-2%) compared to 2018, with only Brazil posting growth. In North America, sales increased by +16%, driven by a return to a sustainable level of activity on scaffolding.
Sales growth continues to be driven by equipment sales, +20% in the first half of the year. The services business grew by +3% and the rental business by +22%. Despite the market slowdown, Haulotte confirms its annual objectives for 2019, a growth in sales and current operating income (excluding exchange gains and losses) of around +10%.
“Building long lasting and transformative partnerships are critical for Haulotte to achieve its sustainable development goals and strengthen customer and supplier relationships,” says Danelian.
