Norway-bases telematics company Abax has released the ‘Driving Behavior’ tool to help businesses monitor and improve how drivers use vehicles.

Abax Driving Behaviour combines four metrics – harsh braking, harsh acceleration, harsh left cornering and harsh right cornering – to score each driver out of 100. The score is an average of the last 30 days of driving. The higher the score, the safer and more efficiently that driver is driving.

An algorithm determines how the Abax unit is mounted to the vehicle. When the Abax units accelerometer reaches a certain threshold, it sends a message to the Abax system that will analyse the data and create a harsh braking, harsh acceleration or harsh cornering event. Based on these events, Abax Driving Behaviour creates a score for each driver. All this is achieved through the existing Abax Triplog unit, which does require additional hardware.

Key driving events are also logged in Abax’s Google integrated map. If an incident of hard braking occurs, the exact time and location of the incident can be viewed.

According to Abax, the Driving Behaviour tool reduces fuel, servicing and insurance costs; reduces accidents by highlighting and training poor driving trends; operates a safer and greener fleet; saves money by optimising fleet performance; and pinpoints accuracy of key driving events logged in a digital map.
